From its inception, the magnificent, 250,000-square foot Oakland Cathedral was christened "The Cathedral of Christ the Light". As a result, light would have to be the focal point of the new Cathedral. To enhance the religious significance of light, leaders in the diocese wanted the Cathedral's design to reflect a representation of the "vault of heaven" which would serve as a fitting place to worship.
Located in Oakland, CA, The Cathedral of Christ the Light is the seat of the Bishop for the diocese and resonates as a place of openness and worship for its 600,000 parishioners.
