Viracon Façade Adorns Cleveland Convention Center and Global Center for Health Innovation
Offers Spectacular Views and Unique Exterior
OWATONNA, MN…Cleveland’s new Convention Center and Global Center for Health Innovation is a striking addition to the cityscape, highlighted by a Viracon glass façade. The facility provides function and innovation for city dwellers in this distinguished venue with space for both business and healthcare services.
Built in the center of downtown Cleveland just off the shores of Lake Erie, the Cleveland Convention Center and Global Center for Health Innovation consists of two adjacent buildings complete with meeting spaces, exhibition halls, and a ballroom.
Viracon’s insulating laminated VRE1-38, VE1-2M, and VUE1-40 products together provide an exterior curtainwall with views of downtown Cleveland and Lake Erie. The variety of Viracon Low-E coatings offers low heat transfer and high light transmission for the facility’s exterior façade while creating a beautiful urban-meets-natural backdrop for the expansive facility.
The facility is comprised of 225,000 square feet of Class A space, separable into three exhibit halls, 35 meeting rooms, a large truck loading dock, and a 32,000-square-foot column-free ballroom. The ballroom and meeting spaces are equipped with new high-tech audiovisual equipment, incorporating iPad technology with lighting grids.
Designed by LMN Architects of the URS Corporation, the Convention Center also stands out among the buildings of downtown Cleveland because of its unique commitment to sustainability. The sustainability plan enacted throughout all aspects of the facility’s development includes a below-grade green roof, extensive plant life and soil materials to filter storm water, water-efficient landscaping, extensive natural lighting and a white reflective roof.
The Cleveland Convention Center and Global Center for Health Innovation was completed in October of 2013. The project team included Cleveland Convention Center and Global Center for Health Innovation, LMN Architects of the URS Corporation, and glazing contactor Harmon, Inc., and general contractor Turner Construction.
