Three SEFAR® Architecture Projects Honored at the 2012 IFAI International Achievement Awards

Publish Date: Thursday, December 13, 2012

DEPEW, NY… Three architectural membrane projects featuring SEFAR® Architecture fabrics have each won a 2012 International Achievement Award (IAA). IAA winners are selected by the Industrial Fabrics Association International (IFAI) for design excellence in specialty fabrics applications. The winning projects include:

  • The retractable roof at BC Place received an Award of Excellence in the ‘tensile structures more than 2,300 square meters’ category. Designed by Hightex Group PLC (UK), the Vancouver, Canada facility features an inner retractable roof with Tenara® Architectural Fabric from SEFAR Architecture. The Tenara Fabric roof extends from the center of the stadium where it’s hidden inside of a pod above the videoboard to a fixed outer roof. Only Tenara Fabric had the translucency and foldability required for this innovative roof design.
  • The outdoor penthouse-level dining area at Juvia Restaurant in Miami Beach, FL received an Award of Excellence in the ‘retractable awnings and canopies’ category. The En-Fold retractable fabric awning system from Uni Systems, LLC features Tenara Fabric, which spans 54 feet over the outdoor space. En-Fold with Tenara Fabric is a fully automated fabric system that allows the fabric membrane to retract and be compactly stored. The Tenara Fabric is ASTM E84 Class A Rated and always provides a high level of diffused light transmission, while providing exceptional durability.
  • Louis Vuitton Island Maison received an Award of Excellence in the ‘commercial interiors’ category. Eventscape Inc. and FTL Design Engineering Studio chose SEFAR Architecture’s EH-35-T2 fabric to create floating custom framed panels above the main interior space at the Louis Vuitton store. SEFAR Architecture’s PTFE fabric provides the required shade and UV protection, yet still allows daylight to enter the flagship store in Singapore’s Marina Bay.

“It’s always rewarding to collaborate with companies at the forefront of fabric architecture design and see them win industry accolades for their work,” says Peter Katcha, Director of North American Sales for SEFAR Architecture. “These award-winning projects show the range and versatility of SEFAR Architecture textile fabric solutions that can provide aesthetic and functional improvements in a variety of applications.”

IFAI received a total of 335 entries in 30 categories and winners were selected based on complexity, design, workmanship, uniqueness and function.  IFAI is a not-for-profit trade association whose 2,000 member companies represent the international specialty fabrics marketplace.
