OWATONNA, MN…The Ottawa Convention Centre in downtown Ottawa, ON, Canada has been outfitted with a 100-ft. rounded façade, featuring Viracon glass. The facility offers patrons the ability to experience a modern, environmentally friendly setting.

The convention centre features 192,000 square feet of usable space that is divided into four levels. The features of the usable space include 28 maximum-configuration meeting rooms, a theatre hall, a banquet hall, a kitchen studio, and a ballroom.

To outfit the façade, Viracon used Insulating Laminated, Insulating, and Monolithic products. The coated glass leveraged Viracon’s VE1-55 Low-E coating. The design allows for increased durability, energy control, and a sweeping view of the Rideau Canal UNESCO World Heritage Site and Parliament Hill.

During the 2013-2014 fiscal year, the Ottawa Convention Centre boosted the local economy by $77 million. The facility saw 72,500 out-of-town patrons and delegates across its 30 conventions and tradeshows in 2013-2014. The convention centre referred to as “Canada’s meeting place” also generated over $30 million in tax revenues.

In addition to its economic benefits, the Ottawa Convention Centre remains committed to a strict environmental charter, which has allowed the facility to divert 94.3% of its construction waste away from landfills. In January 2013, the Ottawa Convention Centre achieved LEED® Gold certification from the Association of Congress Centres (AIPC) Quality Standards program.

Construction of the facility was spearheaded by PCL Constructors Canada Inc. It was built on the former spot of the Ottawa Congress Centre. In July 2014, the facility finished second in voting for the title of “World’s Best Convention Centre” by the AIPC.
