Viracon Project Wins Honorable Mention in 2014 Vanceva® World of Color Awards™ Competition

OWATONNA, MN…The Marian University Michael A. Evans Center for Health Sciences in Indianapolis, IN has won an honorable mention in the Vanceva® World of Color Awards™ Competition. Vanceva selected the project for its innovative use of colorful interlayers with Viracon glass.

The Vanceva® World of Color Awards™ is an international competition honoring architects and designers who use Vanceva color interlayers in laminated glass. With two winners and four honorable mentions, the contest celebrates creativity and the beauty of architectural colored glass. Eastman, the 2014 competition’s sponsor, will also showcase the Marian University project during the Glasstec Tradeshow, October 21 – 24, in Düsseldorf, Germany at booth 11A56.

Both beauty and creative design are apparent in Viracon’s laminated glass at the Marian University Michael A. Evans Center for Health Sciences. Constructed at the corner of 30th street and Cold Spring Road in Indianapolis, IN, the colored glass façade wraps around the lobby and presents a shining new landmark at a major intersection in the city. The application translates as a colored glass “lantern,” utilizing the Catholic iconography of the San Damiano cross within a field of colored glazing in a random framing pattern. The effect is a contemporary expression of stained glass.

Viracon’s glazing performs well from an energy perspective, while providing a VLT (Visible Light Transmittance) of about 50%. The glazing selection was supplemented with exterior shade devices and deep roof overhangs to provide additional control of natural daylighting and glare. The final product is both eye-catching and efficient, providing Marian University and its students with a symbol of the University’s dedication to its spiritual roots and the advancement of medical science.
